$12,800.00
Loop Club Chair A visually exceptional pair of Jamaican Art Deco Club Chairs (c.1935-1950) in the sophisticated style of Burnett Webster. The Caribbean Deco Loop Chair frames are made of local solid West Indian Mahogany. The Mahogany Arm Form consists of a continuous loop with curved supports that attached to the base with scalloped feet. The West Indies Chairs have separate seat and back cushions that rest on horizontal bars that connect the Loop Arms. Burnett Webster (1909-92) was an important Art Deco designer from Jamaica, whose talents, designs, and contribution to “Modernism” are only currently being internationally recognized (see “The Magazine Antiques” Jan/Feb 2023 pgs.86-95). He had been previously acclaimed in Jamaica, most recently at the National Gallery’s 1999 Art Deco exhibition named in his honor. Most of the furniture from his limited output in the 1930’s has been lost; and surviving examples are now largely in institutional collections. Seat Height 16″
Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor fading. The interior frame of the cushions under the upholstery have been reinforced with new wood for comfort and straight.
