This Grand pair of Extraordinary Georgian Irish Chippendale carved mahogany Host and Hostess armchairs where made in the mid-19th century in Ireland. The George II Host Arm Chair has a bow shape Crest Rail with a carved oak tree with acorns in the center dome flanked by foliate carving facing towards the center. The Hostess Arm Chair has a domed rounded shoulder Crest with a carved oak tree with acorns in the center and a carved Imperial Bird in the top of the oak tree carved back splat. Below the crest rail is an elaborately pierced carved vase formed back splat with a grand oak tree having acorns with a ribbon wrapped around the oak tree canopy and dangling on each side of the tree trunk finished in tassels. On each side of the pierced vase splat are two foliate carved stiles topped by scrolled ears with carved rosettes. The arms are carved with lattice work on each side with a bird head for the hand rest with a Sea Serpent tail curving under the arm and coming up in a hole midway of the forearm rest. The arm support has a carved vine with flowers running down the front. The side seat rails are carved with vines weaving threw holes topped with foliate fans and flowers. The front shaped seat rail matches the side with pierced holes with the vine weaving threw. The Chippendale chairs set on four elegantly carved cabriole legs with carved knees going down to a hairy paw foot with a spur above the front two paws.
Repaired: minor repairs to the tree form back splats and re-polished. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor fading. The chairs are in great condition and ready to be upholstered
