19th Century Jamaican Miniature Spice Cabinet, attributed to Ralph Turnbull

This Caribbean miniature demipress/spice cabinet was made in Jamaica in the 1830’s and is attributed to Ralph Turnbull. This British Colonial piece is constructed with six different types of wood including yucca, mahogany, cedrela, rosewood, satinwood, and coconut. The primary wood is mahogany, and the secondary is cedrela. The remaining four woods were used for the inlay. This West Indies piece features a cross band top with a cove edge cornice that sits above a single drawer. The drawer features satinwood inlay fans in each corner and circular fans on either side, also made of satinwood. Below the drawer there is a cabinet door with yucca, coconut, and rose wood decoration. The bottom features two inlaid swords.
